Emi: SITC Paint is Forever

Sometimes, I swear everything I own has paint on it. My keys are spattered with resolute blue, my moccasins are dripped with resonant blue and the shorts I’m wearing now have a considerable smudge of majestic grape across them, a smudge that rubbed right off onto the seat of my car (whoops).

If you think that sounds like complaining, don’t worry, I’m not. Quite the opposite, in fact. All these little splotches of paint remind me of Summer in the City, and that couldn’t make me happier.

I really don’t think I can overstate how much I love SitC. The last five summers with SitC have been some of the best experiences of my life. Does that sound a little cheesy? Sure. But is it still true? You betcha. I get to spend my summer doing something I love with some truly awesome people, and at the end of the day, I go home feeling like I did something that actually matters.

Everything that reminds me of SitC reminds me just how much I love it. I go to school in DC, and this week marks the ritualistic torture known as finals, which pretty much makes enjoying life impossible. But every time I see that splash of paint (or anything, really), it makes me think of SitC and Detroit and how much I can’t wait for this summer to get here.

And thankfully, it’s coming. I’m excited to come back for my sixth year in general, and I’m really looking forward to sharing what the Summer in the City experience that I’ve loved so much is all about through this blog. Of course, we hope to see you come out and enjoy SitC firsthand; nothing compares to getting out on the ground and finding new colors of paint to get all over your possessions.
